Setting-related questions:
Q: What is this game's setting, anyway? There's nothing but a few cryptic allusions as to what's going on in the world.
A: The game was originally called "Lands of Rising Evil" which sort of explains that there's some evil afoot and it's our job to defeat it. The quests in the game help to flesh out the story line and fill in the details. More information can be found by reading Falerin's Stories in the Legends and Lore Message forum.

Q: What are the elemental lords/gods that I hear mentioned in monster and item descriptions and message board posts?
A: The elemental lords are the deities of the AQ world. Each one champions one of the eight elements and is constantly striving against the others for dominance. Other than that, not much is known about these entities.

Q: Why are water and ice separate elements? Aren't water and ice both water at different temperatures?
A: Well, that's what the water lord says. According to the ice lord, water is melted ice at certain temperatures. Light and fire have also had a long- standing feud about whether fire is simply solar energy stored within living things, or if the sun itself is just one big furnace. I wont even start on the intensely theoretical matter/energy disputes between their respective powers. I wouldnt breach the subject at all if I were you.

Gameplay related questions:
Q: Hey! This game lacks [something that any self-respecting online RPG should have]! What on earth is wrong with you people?
A: Patience, Grasshopper. Adventure Quest is still in development. That means that not everything that will be in it is in it now, and not everything that is in it now will be in it when it's done. The beauty of this arrangement is that you can surf on down to the message board and post what you want to see included in the game on the Suggestions Forum. Go ahead! We won't laugh, honest!

Q: Do any of the Quests advance the story?
A: Some of the quests have more than one part, but none of the story lines are fully complete yet. Many quests give temporary rewards of special items to battle with.

Q: How do I see my stats and the stats of my foe?
A: Put your cursor on either your character's portrait or that of your enemy. C'mon, don't tell me you didnt figure this out yourself!

Q: How do I raise my stats?
A: Find one of the trainers in the game to increase your stats. The level and attack damage of the trainers is set to match your own abilities, and all of their stats are 5 above your own, so it will always be a tough battle. You need to reduce a trainer's HP to 25% of their maximum to make one surrender and officially raise your trained stat by 5 points. There is a gold cost for training, and the price is higher for training higher level stats.

Q: How do I change classes? I'm tired of being an Adventurer!
A: Like so many other questions in this FAQ, I have to respond, "It's not done yet." When classes are finished up, you can change your class by completing a series of quests related to the class.

Q: Why does the "play other characters" button send me back to the first menu? I thought it would let me fight against other players.
A: Nope, but it sure seems that way, doesnt it? That button lets you pick another character from your roster (or create a new one) to go adventuring with.

Q: What do the percentages beside the elements on the status screens mean?
A: These show you how well-protected you and your foes are against the various elements. 100% means no extra protection. The full damage of an attack gets through. Above 100% means you take more than normal damage from the element. Less than 100% means you receive less damage from that element. Negative percentages mean that attacks of the corresponding element actually heal you or the monster.

Q: What do the numbers beside Melee, Ranged and Magic on the status screen mean?
A: They represent the likelihood of your character blocking an attack of the corresponding type. Higher is better. Melee attacks are ones where the foe comes into physical contact with your character by punching, kicking, biting or swinging a weapon. Ranged attacks involve a monster throwing, shooting or spitting something at you (they never run out of ammo.) Magic attacks involve the enemy casting a spell your way (they never run out of MP either.)

Q: What do the weapon stats mean?
A: First of all, remember that the damage numbers in the stats represent damage before elemental resistance are taken into account. Element shows the element embodied in the weapon. Hitting someone with a weakness to fire damage with a fire weapon will cause them to take more damage than normal. The percentage bonus is added to your odds of scoring a hit against an enemy. Experiment and shop around to find out which are the most useful.

Q: Why did my potions go back to one of each? How can I get more?
A: Whenever you go to the shop or log off of AQ, your potions are reset to a single health potion and a single magic potion. While in the game, certain quests and monsters can get you extra health potions. You may stumble across a treasure box during your adventures. Opening the box may reward you with either type of potion.

Q: I attacked with my weapon, and it did something weird instead of the normal attack? Whats up with that?
A: If by 'something weird' you mean an attack that's different and usually more powerful than your normal attack, what your weapon just did is called a 'special'. Certain weapons have the ability to do a different attack instead of being used normally. The likelihood of activation and type of attack vary from weapon to weapon.

Q: Where can I get a pet?
A: Pets can be purchased in the Pet Shop in Battleon or found on random encounters. Some pets are better than others, and they each specialize in an element. Pets will someday be able to level up along with your player.

Q: What are the secrets? How do I find them?
A: They wouldn't be secrets if I told you! Please do not go begging for them on the message boards!!!

Q: Why does the Frogzard Rider armor spit at my enemies?
A: The Frogzard armor is not a weapon. I know it looks like your mount is doing the attacking, but thats just your imagination. The critters spit is just as powerful, accurate and has the same elemental alignment as whatever weapon your character is currently wielding. Dont ask me how.

Q: How?
A: Dont be a wise guy. No one likes a wise guy.

Setup/Character-related questions:
Q: One of my character's names has been changed! What happened?
A: If If your new moniker is something along the lines of "Soap Breath" or "Potty Mouth," Artix decided that your old name was not something he wanted the younger adventurers exposed to, and graciously gave you a more descriptive title. Dont you feel special? If the above didnt happen, you may have fallen victim to a bug or been hacked. Tell Artix about it through e-mail or the message board.

Q: I don't like any of the three faces my character is offered at the start. Is there any way I can get another face?
A: Find the Magic Shop in Battleon and ask Warlic the Mage for a new face. It doesn't hurt much, and the gold price is very reasonable.

Q: How do I become a guardian? What are the incentives?
A: Well, other than keeping AQ afloat, you are rewarded with the Guardian plate, the Guardian sword (which has a nice special), and two of each potion as your default amount. In addition to this, you have access to the Guardian Tower which contains even more perks. Visit the Guardian page to find out more.

Q: Is Guardian a class?
A: No, guardianship transcends class. Whatever else you become, you're still a Guardian.

Bug-related questions:
Q: The game messes up when I try to do X. What's wrong?
A: To call attention to any bug that you have found, please head over to the "Bugs & Errors" section of the message boards and post a message describing what happened. Before posting, check the latest official News posts to see if what you found is really a new feature. And also check the sticky posts in the Bugs forum to see if the bug has already been reported.

Q: Chat doesn't work for me. What should I do?
A: Go read the Chat help sticky post in the message boards for help on connecting to the chat.

Q: When I complete the quest, nothing changes! I dont get any reward and I have the option to do the quest again. Is this a bug?
A: Nope. Refer to the question in the Gameplay related questions section.

Q: Sometimes, when I change my armor, my face turns male, my hair turns black, my shield triangular and my sword has a crescent-shaped pommel. What happened?
A: This is usually the result of a slow connection. The unusual equipment and face you are seeing are the default images and are displayed when the correct equipment fails to load. To fix this problem, simply select your weapon and shield after you have chosen your armor.
