|
|
| Forum
/ Email Rules |
- No profanity, inappropriate material or content. This
is a family friendly game; we have players of all ages, including
children. Profanity is strictly prohibited. Any material that
is pornographic, sexually explicit, derogatory, or discriminates
on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, color, creed, religion,
lifestyle; or, any other material that may be deemed as objectionable
in a public community environment, is strictly prohibited. Excessive
use of foul language in an inappropriate context, including swear
words, real-world racial slurs, alternate spellings and other
language that is not consistent with the fantasy environment and
designed to hurt, will be considered a disruption. The existence
of the built-in swear word filter does not mean you should let
it do your editing for you.
- You may not harass or abuse others. Harassment is defined
as specifically targeting another player or group of players to
harm or inconvenience them. As harassment can take many forms,
the moderators will make a determination as to whether or not
a "reasonable person" would feel harassed and act accordingly.
Actions which would be considered abuse include but are not
limited to:
-
Sexual Abuse or Harassment - untoward and/or unwelcome
advances of a graphic and sexual nature. This includes,
but is not limited to, virtual rape, overt sexual overtures,
and stalking of a sexual nature
- Attempting to Defraud - petitioning with false information
with the intent of receiving benefits as a result. This
includes reporting player misconduct without basis for it.
- Impersonating a Moderator - falsely representing yourself
to another player as an AQ Staff Member, on or off the Battleon
server.
- Personnel Abuse - including, but is not limited to, sending
excessive private messages or e-mails to a moderator or
staff member, making physical threats, or using abusive
language against a moderator.
-
No inflammatory speech. Any speech or inference, direct
or indirect, that constitutes a personal, attack against another
individual or group, is prohibited.
-
No whining. Whining is defined as "an attack upon
an idea, concept or problem, without offering a counter-idea,
alternative concept, or a solution." Any and all whines
are strictly prohibited. We want to hear your ideas, however,
attacking ideas without offering constructive criticism is counter
productive.
-
No Spam. Unsolicited promotion of other web sites, or
products, is rude. The occasional post about a game, (we all
love games) is fine, but no advertising your Uncle's Avon catalog
site, etc. Please keep our forums free of unsolicited advertisement
or product promotion.
-
Topicality: While Adventure Quest and BattleOn games
respect and appreciate your right to free expression the fact
remains that our games are topical in nature. As such the posting
of material should remain at all times within a board that is
topically appropriate. It is not for example appropriate to
Role-play in the discussion forum, nor is it appropriate to
post Stories in the Role-play forum. Please keep replies and
posts topical to the board on which they are posted or they
will be removed.
-
No trolling: In other words, don't post pointless replies
to every thread that someone writes. If you don't have any serious
things to contribute to the conversation, stay out of it. Please
try to keep your replies relevant to the topic you are replying
to. If they are asking about Zards, do not start going on about
your pet snail Snoopy or your great thirst for orange juice.
If you would like to have a conversation with someone, try the
chat room.
-
Signatures: Signatures if used, should be no more than
six lines of text. Please remain brief and to the point. If
you reference an image in your signature instead of text, it
must be no larger than 468 (wide) x 60 (long) pixels in size.
(File size of no more than 40k as it will cause the page to
load slowly otherwise)
Note: to add an image use:
Account and password protection.
-
You are fully responsible for your own account & the
protection of your password. Statements such as "My
friend/sister/brother/dog was using my account" are not
acceptable as an explanation for violation of any rule. If you
share your account with someone and they break the rules it
will be treated the same as if you broke the rules yourself.
Your account & password are your sole responsibility.
-
Submission of ideas: Submitting does not in anyway mean
your ideas/art/other will be used or included in any way. Any
ideas submitted to BattleOn.com, are free to be used by BattleOn.com
as they please.
-
Read and Follow Staff Messages: If staff or moderators
post rules specific to a board they must be obeyed. Staff give
of their own time to keep the boards running smoothly and failure
to comply with their requests is grounds for deletion.
-
Staff may delete messages at their discretion: Part
of the job of moderators is to keep the boards clean. Messages
deemed inappropriate, old, or off topic may be deleted by moderators
at any time.

| IRC
Chat |
| The IRC
chat room accessed via the in game client as well as any other Internet
Relay Chat (IRC) Client (mIRC, xChat, IceChat, etc) will be held to
the same rules as any other part of the BattleOn.com community.
Chat room operators or Ops can, at their own discretion, institute
chat-related penalties for violation of the rules, or disobeying
their instructions, and these penalties can include any of the following:
verbal warnings, expulsions from the chat room ("kicks"),
and banishments both temporary and permanent from the chat room
("bans").
Different Ops will use different standards for enforcement of these
policies, so participants are advised to listen to and obey the
Ops in order to retain chat privileges.
If you are found to repeatedly violate the rules, you may face
the suspension or termination of your AQ account.
Please, no swearing, spamming, flooding or transfer of illegal
software.
In addition, the Chat room is hosted on another server and you
are required to act in compliance with the IRC Network's rules and
policies lest your access to the network be suspended entirely:

Role-play Rules |
|
In addition to the general rules you should be aware of and abide
by the Role-play rules.
The Adventure Quest Staff have the final say on any conflict.
Moderating and arbitrating role-play is a difficult, often thankless
task, but we happily do it. Please exercise patience and cooperation
when we are called to intervene.
A staff decision shall be considered final and should be respected.
In general, just have a good time and be respectful to your fellow
players - this doesn't mean your character has to like anyone else,
but keep in mind this is only a game and actions in character do
not always reflect on the person/player.
Rules:
- "Role Playing" is not an excuse to violate any
rules. Claiming to have been 'Role-Playing' does not excuse
you from the rules. While we encourage role-playing, you must
still act in a reasonable manner. While your character may have
different relationships with other characters, you need to remember
not to harass another character or player.
- Keep OOC (Out-Of-Character) comments on the OOC threads.
Keep OOC (Out of character chat) to an absolute minimum. There
is a separate thread for OOC but game-related conversation. Use
the OOC thread, email, chat or PMs to plan your responses with
the other person, a bit of planning makes a great story. You must
remain in character in all posts on threads clearly marked as
IC (In-Character) areas. You may add short OOC comments to the
end of your roleplays for clarification or emphasis on something.
Do not make a post that is entirely OOC, this disrupts the story.
Make use of the Edit button to make any additions or corrections
to a post. Any posts that are entirely OOC and not game related
should be posted in the OOC board.
- No Bunnying or Godmodding. When you post a role play
on the boards, try to avoid bunnying and godmodding. Bunnying
is taking control of characters other than your own in order to
make the storyline go the way you want it to. This is not only
rude, but also disrespectful to the other players and is against
the very idea of role playing since the action is supposed to
be random according to whatever the other person is thinking or
feeling at the time. His or her character would react differently
than you think he or she would, so don't presume to control him/her.
Godmodding is similar in that it's cheating the system. When somebody
godmods, he or she manipulates the situation his or her character
is in at the time so that said character comes out without a scrape.
For example, a Death Knight attacks your character and you say
that you killed him with one arrow and have not even broken a
sweat, this would be godmodding. Generally, the person that starts
the storyline will continue it by giving you an out come to the
actions you take. And yes, sometimes you will have to wait for
them to continue the story, as most players are not online all
day.
- Battle/Combat There are few guidelines on any combat
your character may have with NPCs. You must keep things reasonable
and, during most situations, follow the rules of whoever created
the NPC and/or storyline you're involved in. Very few things are
more annoying than a person taking the time and care to create
a nice NPC and some companion of theirs takes out a dagger and
puts it right in his back. If you created the NPC, then you may,
of course, do as you please, but you should respect others' creations.
Similarly, NO player is allowed to create an NPC that will help
your character in combat with another player. This is blatant
godmodding and is not in the spirit of good gaming. Without this
rule, any player could simply create a gang of NPCs to go around
with them and defeat every player he/she met. When in combat with
another player, pay careful attention NOT to bunny (role-play
another's character). If the two of you (or more) cannot work
out how a fight will go out of character, then you are to simply
role-play your character's action or reaction in the fight.
- Obey Thread Specific Rules: In general roleplay in the
Forums is fairly freeform. However at the begining of a thread
the creator may post additional rules in keeping with the way
they are designing the story to go. You are expected to comply
with these rules as if they were given by a member of staff. Do
not argue with the thread creator about rules. This is rules lawyering
and will be frowned upon severely. In general staff WILL NOT negate
the rules of a thread unless they are in blatant violation of
other network rules. (I.e. if a Thread creator wants to start
a heroic campaign they are within their rights to require that
none of the player characters be evil dictators secretly bent
on world destruction. Simmilarly if they wish to create an angst
ridden story it would be reasonable to disallow characters who
are bubbly, chipper, and carefree. You are not forced to participate
in a thread that does not suit your tastes but you are required
to respect the right of others to do so.
- Play in the Adventure Quest World:
Please, this is the Adventure Quest Role Play board. If you really
need to RP Lord of the Rings, Final Fantasy or any other game/story,
I am sure you can find a dozen other places to do so. : RP your
AQ character with other AQ characters, using your knowledge of
AQ. You may want to read Falerin's Tales before you start Role-playing,
to get a feel for the depth of the game
Basic Help for Role Playing
- Only play YOUR character - do not act for anyone else.
- If you create a new thread you need to describe the setting
and basic start of the story for the other players. Be as descriptive
as possible. You should give at least a paragraph or two to go
on, maybe idea of where you would like to see the story go. If
appropriate clearly specify any rules specific to your thread.
- Include as much as possible in each post, it makes it hard
for others to read if there are a lot of single line posts by
just a few players.
- Rule of thumb, make your posts at least two complete sentences.
- Be sure you know what is going on in the story before you post.
- Also be sure that you are clear on what you are adding to the
story, so the others can respond to your characters actions.
- Edit! Please, take the time to edit your posts. Just open up
a word processing program for a quick spell check & to add punctuation.
This makes it so much easier for everyone to understand what you
are playing.Try write as though you are writing a book.
- Unless you are a very esperienced gamer please try to limit
yourself to 3 characters and 3 threads (stories) at any one time.
Any more and it not only runs you thin, it gets hard for others
to keep track of which characters & in which threads you are playing.

| Legends
and Lore Rules: |
|
In addition to the general rules you should be aware of and abide
by the rules of the Legends and Lore Forum.
The Adventure Quest Staff have the final say on any conflict.
A staff decision shall be considered final and should be respected.
In general, just have a good time and be respectful to your fellow
authors - this doesn't mean you have to agree with their artistic
choices but you should not belittle them either.
Constructive criticism is welcome but attacks shall be dealt with
swiftly.
Notes:
1) While some of these stories may reflect the history/current
state of the world it is the Staff of the game that determines
what is real and what is legend. Falerin's Stories, for instance,
are generally considered cannonical, as that is his job.
2) Unless posted in an official threa, what is posted here may
not neccesarily reflect the game in actuality. (See #1)
3) In general, avoid including official Characters, the Characters
of other authors, or the Characters of AdventureQuest players
without the permission of the player, author, or staff responsible
for said character.
4) Round robin stories are welcome and encoraged but should be
marked as such clearly. Do not use characters from other stories
or write chapters for other stories unless it is either a round
robin or you have express permission to do so.
5) Respect the copyrights of the authors here, do not repost
without permission. Further do not include characters or material
from other copyrighted works without the permission of the author.
6) Have fun!

| Rules
Enforcement: |
|
When any of the aforementioned rules are violated, or an alleged
transgression occurs, AdventureQuest Staff will, at their sole discretion,
determine an appropriate remedy, with or without communicating the
warnings or results of the remedies taken, including but not limited
to: verbal warnings, written warnings, temporary account suspension,
permanent account suspension, server bans, and legal action.
In the event that an action is communicated to the transgressing
player, the player will have an opportunity to appeal for a review
of the decision within ninety (90) days time, otherwise, no such
review is applicable.
Access to this server and any of its related products is a
privlige and not a right! The staff of this community moderate
the server to their best of their ability and at their own discretion.
Attacks
upon their decisions or non-constructive arguments will be ignored
